Ode to Farmers
Farmers play a vital role in providing the food that we eat and the products that we use daily.
They work hard to cultivate and harvest crops, raise livestock, and manage the land in a sustainable way.
Without farmers, we would not have the nourishment, resources, and happiness we rely on to live our daily lives.
Inclement weather and high variation of temperatures due to global warming and climate change, as we have experienced lately, remind us of how extremely fragile what we take for granted is.
Every day, I witness the hard work of my life partner. She is a flower farmer. A one-woman operative business she built from scratch.
Her passion is to grow, cherish and share the beauty that Mother Earth offers us via colorful flowers. And get it back to Earth one way or another.
Nature lovers enjoy getting bouquets of magnificent blossoms from spring to fall at the local farmer’s market or the farm directly.
Behind the scene, a lot of the spring flowers need to be seeded and overwintered. It is daily care.
This winter is so cold that even well-protected plants froze under the multilayer covers. Neither caterpillar, greenhouse, nor high tunnels prevented damages. Indeed, it minimized it, but damages occurred.
This upcoming spring offering will be different, but my life partner will find a way to keep bringing joy and happiness to nature aficionados through the beauty of her flowers and the well-too-often-unappreciated hard labor.
Our role as consumers is to support our local farmers. Helping them is helping society and helping us.
